New mobile app proves a hit with researchers

At the end of February, QNRF launched its new app to expand the channels of communication between the funding organization and the researchers it serves. Within the first month it had been downloaded over 2,000 times.

The interactive app, which is free for iPhone and iPad users, is offered in both English and Arabic and provides the user with a number of unique features, including a newsroom section, an events calendar and a multimedia gallery. The app also includes selected publications arising from QNRF-funded projects.

For applicants, a correspondence section will help facilitate research collaboration and contribution requests.

QNRF is one of the few research funding agencies around the world to develop such technology for their users.

After a successful first phase launch, sights have already been set on the next targets. "Phase 2 will be the launching the application for Android and Windows 8 users," said QNRF's Head of IT, Haytham A. Ali.

“It is in QNRF’s DNA to promote an advancement of knowledge. Launching our own mobile application was the logical next step for us," commented QNRF's Executive Director, Dr Abdul Sattar Al-Taie.

The app can be downloaded through the iOS App Store for iPhone and iPad.
