QNRF refreshes its IT processes

QNRF's backend is now more streamlined
QNRF is relatively unusual amongst QF entities in that it has its own IT-support function responsible for building and maintaining the online submission and in-house grant management systems, that QNRF relies on to handle its activities.

Behind the scenes, QNRF’s team of seven highly-qualified and experienced system architects, developers and software engineers are constantly monitoring users’ feedback and then reviewing, amending and improving the systems and processes to enhance the overall user-experience. As expected, such activities should lead to the evolution of greater efficiencies and it should therefore be no surprise that the team recently announced a much better organized back-office menu layout, specifically designed to improve navigation to the most heavily user-accessed functions.

The streamlining now positions data from all funding programs in a single place, via a new dashboard-based home page, where all relevant information is now brought to the user’s attention at a single glance.

Enhancement of the user-interface, extensive filters and print options, combined with a simplified registration page, have also minimized the need for scrolling on some pages.

Mr Haytham Ali, QNRF IT Manager said “The refreshed system also offers a way to monitor the performance of researchers as QNRF considers the effectiveness of funding. It will provide a visual tool to help the researchers gauge their effectiveness.”

Sitting at the heart of QNRF’s grant management activities, and representing six solid years of development, the sophisticated system is a world-class, paperless application and administration structure. Its development has allowed QNRF to leap-frog the more traditional type of systems usually found in such organizations and, it is safe to say, the advanced technology developed by QNRF has become the envy of many other funding agencies around the world.
